  • For a thrifty shopper, a “Buy one, get one” (BOGO) deal can sound like the best way to get more bang for their buck. But the appeal of BOGO is why it’s hard for consumers to see it for what it is.Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjOCheck out more of The Goods on Vox https://bit.ly/2qlIYQxBOGO is meant to get you to spend more money, not less. The deal disguises the fact that, unless you already intended to buy two items, it really isn’t all that big a discount. The Goods by Vox explains what we buy, why we buy it, and why it matters.Watch the rest of The Goods videos on YouTube: http://bit.ly/2PvjHCBVox.com is a news website that helps you cut through the noise and understand what's really driving the events in the headlines. my local Starbucks has a buy one cookie get one free deal and you can tell me all you want but in that moment I enjoyed two cookies for the price of one

  • Way Of the sword 2 months ago

teppolundgren store cookies aren’t as good though

  • teppolundgren 2 months ago

@curse1 Perhaps. That might be if they put higher concentrations of the "good stuff" into their cookies. More sugar and things.Still, if that's the case, it's still cheaper to buy a pack from the store and stuff your face with it. If you need to eat 10 cookies for every Starbucks cookie, it's still twice as cheap. And more filling.

1:05 it really frustrates me that you call $35.99 "35 dollars". Are you serious? That's clearly $36 like you couldn't round less well if you tried.

  • too skinny 4 you 20 days ago

you really shouldn’t round a price that ends in “.99” at all cause then it loses it’s charm to make you wanna buy it

  • ethanlmarsh 1 months ago

You couldn’t use grammar “less well” if you tried.

TL:DW - BOGO is only good if you were actually planning to buy the second item even without the deal. If you only needed the first one, then you're actually wasting money on the second item which you didn't need.

Is it just me or is this a really unconvincing video.First of all, you can clearly see at 0:31 that "less than 10% of croissan'wich purchases usng BOGO were affected by this practice". It might be some mistake or something but clearly most people are getting the correct deal which is a good deal. Even if all cases were like that, you're still getting 2 sandwiches for less than 2 times the regular price of sandwiches. Yeah you're spending more, but now you have 2 sandwiches so more utility....

👌👌👌👌This video was garbage. Are you getting everything for free? No. Are you still saving gobs of money? Yes.

  • Nádia Pedott 2 months ago

RaVen McCraig exactly! The purpose of the video is so obvious to me...I hate when stores try to make me buy more stuff than I intended to, by promising those kind of “good deals”... Spend some more and you will win free shipping! Spend some more and you will get a free ecobag! Buy two more of those and you will “win the chance” to get a car!I spend more money and end up with something I didn’t even wanted in the first place.

The best thing to do to save money is to not even buy one.

  • Runar Andersen 1 months ago

I remind myself when I see an offer of like 40 %: Or save 100 % of not buying it.

Let's put it like that: anything marketing is an attempt to rip you off.
