Is Instagram revealing my stalkers?

  • Published on:  7/20/2018
  • Instagram has us coming up with wild ideas on how the platform algorithm actually works. It’s mostly because we’re confused about why the app’s arranged in certain ways. Like, why do I see one person in my feed before someone else? Ashley Carman talks to Instagram Home product lead Julian Gutman to learn more about the Instagram algorithm.Subscribe: The Verge on Facebook: on Twitter: on Instagram: More: http://www.theverge.comCommunity guidelines: to Verge Science on YouTube, a new home base for our explorations into the future of science:

Since Instagram won't go back to chronological order, my only wish is that they allow users to manually refresh our homepage instead of doing it automatically. It's bad enough that the feed isn't chronological but if I switch to another app and hop back in Instagram I'm screwed and have to find my way back.

His answer didn't make any sense without answering yes or no, sounds just like a politician's a answer.

How does one stalk you by visiting your public profile? No one wants to be followed in the street, if someone just follows you around that's stalking. But a public profile is something you create with the purpose of showing selected pictures to other people. That's the whole purpose of a public profile. If that creeps you out, just make the profile private or shut the whole thing down. This whole idea of instagram stalking without any interaction at all is just so stupid and immature.

I always thought the people who looked at my story more recently were at the top, and the first viewers were at the bottom. Simple & chronological order.

They probably check your Facebook cookies as well, because I made an account on Instagram not using my personal email and the friend recommendations it gave me was straight from my Facebook friends.

Instagram, I don't care about my best friends appearing at the top. I want recency to be the deciding factor.
As for the share menu, if the app is supposed to be so good at knowing who my best friends are, why does it not show my best friends at the top of that list?
