  • Sony announced its latest flagship at IFA 2018, the Xperia XZ3. But aside from a new OLED screen and a few other tweaks and improvements, it’s not much of an upgrade over the XZ2 model that Sony released earlier this year.Subscribe: http://goo.gl/G5RXGsLike The Verge on Facebook: https://goo.gl/2P1aGcFollow on Twitter: https://goo.gl/XTWX61Follow on Instagram: https://goo.gl/7ZeLvXRead More: http://www.theverge.comCommunity guidelines: http://bit.ly/2D0hlAvSubscribe to Verge Science on YouTube, a new home base for our explorations into the future of science: http://bit.ly/2FqJZMl

Why do these kinds of videos always seem to be written from the perspective of "should you upgrade from the previous model"? Who actually does that? I have heard of people getting a new phone every couple of years (though even that seems excessive), but who one earth gets every single new model when a company is releasing multiple models a year? What mythical person is that "should you upgrade?" question meant for?
It seems to me that a far more relevant comparison would be: If you're in the market for a new smartphone how does this compare to other currently available models from the competition? But no, that's never the question that is posed. Instead it's "should you upgrade from a phone that only came out a few months ago?" The problem is that the answer to that latter question is always, *always*, "no, of course you shouldn't you dingbat".

I don't think they're trying to only sell this phone to the people who bought the xz2 like you're implying.

Cmon this phone looks good. It’s not iterative. It’s a big leap to following the good tracks. Great work Sony

Sony Xperia phones are the new punching bag of tech media, now that they don't have HTC phones to do it. Tbh this is very good update, Xperia phones are very very underrated, it's just Xperia's name has been tarnished by it's very boring and slow updates lately and almost to no PR, but now they're looking like they're giving back now

This guy mispronounced the Sony phones as ZX instead of XZ it portrays the misinformation and negativity tour they have towards Sony.
1 Are they payed to do this? By other oems whom did this in the past already like Samsung...
2 Is this guy a little bit bias? It seems as if he doesn't know what's good even if it slapped him in the face.....
    3. While complaining about the phones size and such they show the xperia XZ2 compact wich does have a bigger bottom bezel compared to the one on the XZ3 at 1:17

As someone said already, it's only a negative if you think of this phone as being aimed at people that bought the other version, as an upgrade. But to judge the phone on its own, it's solid and a nice addition as a potential option for new buyers.

So much complaining about a twice yearly upgrade that's better than the extremely iterative, internal-only upgrades the iPhone gets every 2 years.

WTF how stupid this video is, screen alone makes it huge upgrade, everything else is top notch, what do you need more from phone, its perfect

Companies do this all the time. No one complains when Oneplus releases a 6 and 6T within months of each other. No one complains when LG releases an LG G7 and then a V40. People are saying how a Galaxy Note 9 is an incremental upgrade over S9+. I want The Verge to ding all these companies in their reviews if this is how they treat Sony.
