Umm... confession... I was actually taught in public school science class that dark-skinned people don't need sunscreen because they have more melanin. True story. Yes, the teacher was white.

Everyone needs sunscreen skin cancer doesn’t discriminate, even if you don’t burn easily

@Philip J. Hill Well said... let he who as ears, let him hear... or swap ears for eyes to read. Lost a family member to skin cancer, beautiful coffee bean skintone. The sun and ozone also isn't same as my grandparents' day anyway. This topic is important.

I worked with a black guy that didn't think he needed sunscreen. He said "Black people don't burn. We just peel." I had to explain why they peel.

People should also consume plenty of omega 3 to protect their skin from the 🌞

  • I haven't found one yet that didn't make me look like a ghost. Or made me sweat. I don't peel because of the sun my skin is dry in the winter and oily as hell in the summertime...still searching for the perfect sunscreen or sunblock whichever one will do the job.

Cause I'm made out of MEAT!!! That's why!!

My kids loved that line - now whenever I tell them it's time for sunscreen they say, "I'm made of MEAT!" haha. It's kind of funny to hear that from a 2-year-olds mouth.

My sunscreen is just staying indoors because you know..... saves me money AND I don't have to explain why I would need sunscreen 🤓

*Blacks in the States and Europe are vitamin D deficient!* We need the sun, in moderation of course. Keep in mind our melanin protects us from UV radiations but it also takes us longer to absorb vitamin D from the sun for the same reason. We don't burn easily though. I'm medium brown and never got sunburned. Most of my family never got burned back in Africa either nor do they have sun spots or premature wrinkles. I used to spend most days outside as a kid during summer. It really does take a lot for us...

I'm a dark skinned person and didn't know I needed sunscreen until I got sunburned really bad on my first day at the beach.

Mary Ann Girvan I have never seen a black person get sun burned! I haven't.

@Lucas Fernandez it takes me 10 mins of lying in the sun without sunscreen the way he's describing to get 1st degree burns
